PLO Challenge Going Bad
I've been finding this PLO nonsense to be less than fun. Of course poker is never much fun when you're losing.
I've played about 8000 hands at PLO25 but because I've played some on Boss/IPN and iPoker this also includes PLO20 and PLO30 £/$/€. I guess PLO€30 is more like PLO$50, but whatever.
I'm down something like 4 buyins. While having ran about 5 buyins bellow ev and paid like 15 buyins in rake. It's pretty frustrating but obviously a super small sample of hands. 8000 hands is like 12 hours of 8-tabling.
I've just spent so much time studying the game rather than actually play it. Yesterday I watched instructional videos, read books and read the SSPLO section of 2p2 for about 6 hours then played for 2 hours. I really hope all this dedication pays off in the long run because I've easily cost myself $xx,xxx in lost earnings from not spending my time grinding SNGs lately. It's a tough thing to do but it's like taking 5 steps back with the potential of being able to take 10 steps forward in the future because the ceiling for earnings in SNGs is much much lower (and always decreasing) than PLO.
I will try to get a graph done for the next update but obviously a pain in the arse when I've played on my laptop/desktop and on different sites.
6max PLO10 +50BI 100% complete
6max PLO25 -4BI ~ 0% complete
6max PLO50
6max PLO100
6max PLO200
I still need to rake $900 on Stars before the end of the year to get a milestone bonus but other than that I'm waiting to see what changes they make to their VIP Club (announced this wednesday) to see if it's worth my while playing there next year. Obviously the games on Stars are way tougher than euro sites, however none of the other sites can match the excellent software, support and volume of games. Hopefully they pull something good out the bag like 6X VPPs or make supernova elite easier to get, because otherwise I'd rather just be playing on Party or somewhere.
I've been using the Table Scanner software (extra license software for HEM) to game select recently. You basically just tell it what site/game/stakes you want to play and it scans all the active tables, lets you know how many tables each player is playing, shows players HUD stats and stuff like the average VPIP for the table.
You can also add filters like "no short stacks" and stuff, it really is pretty cool, and table selection is half the battle in winning at cash games.

Completed PLO Level 10 :-)
I thought that completing the PLO10 part of my challenge was going to take me like another 2 hours after my last blog update. Well then I went on a big downswing, grinded it back up superhero style, had de-ja-vu and went on another big downswing but today I shipped 15 buyins to finally break through the 50 buyin barrier after being so close twice before.
Here is the final graph, plus stats:
It's just absurd how bad the rake is at these levels. I paid $318 in rake at PLO10, come on that is just sick.
Something that's been annoying me a lot recently is when I'm on the river with another player, its a pretty small pot and we both have the nuts so it ends up going JAM JAM JAM, then we split the huge pot..... after pokerstars takes 5% of the whole thing, so we both end up losers haha.
Imagine how terrible this must be in split pot games like Omaha Hi-Lo - I can't even imagine it would be worth playing that game at low/mid stakes because of the rake structure. They should have some caveat for taking less rake in a split pot imo.
I played my biggest pot so far by getting it all in 4-way preflop versus some of the biggest monkeys on the site. As I watched the hand show down I couldn't even tell what cards I was trying to fade, there were so many. Unfortunately I only claimed 2/3 of the pot but the way I've been running before - i'll take it!

Ok so for my last thousands hands or so I changed from 4-tabling to 6-tabling. I may drop down to 4 again while I start PLO25 but then move up to 6 again if I start off well.
I invested 8 hours into watching a video series on Deuces Cracked called PLO Pro. The theme of the series was that fslexcduck coached some swiss guy on PLO over a couple of months through PLO100 to PLO400 and explained what he was doing right and what he was doing wrong and her complete thought process on each hand. I learned a lot from it and it was amazing to see how bad people were playing at those stakes - it makes me feel pretty good about starting to grind PLO.

They see me rollin', They hatin'
You have to really laugh at noobs.
Some clowns on some scrubby staking site for broke poker players have a thread dissing me and my blog.
http://forum.parttimepoker.com/showthread.php?t=630443
The guy who started this is a lame pocketfiver called Poncholoco (and Earlerock on the begging site)
Here is a photo of the OP, Poncholoco
Broke ass hatin' on me, dude really must be loco
And Poncholoco is a real broke hobbo
He's beggin' for a steak coz he's not good at poker
His "cute" girlfriend looks like a cocker spaniel
And the bigger beat is that this clown's name is Daniel
Daniel is 28 and lives in his mom's basement
I've made 350K from poker, he's waiting for his next paycheck
Daniel's waxing off and on with the dish plates
In the restaurant job he works for min-wage
Keep up your lame ass threads son and pathetic hate
And hit me up next time your broke ass needs a steak
